OWLSAT project: High school student satellites project – The 1st Tiny BIRDS project in Thailand
Astroberry Ltd. and Thai government organizations such as Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) leading by King’s Mongkut University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) start a student satellite project name “OWLSAT” which targets for high school students in Thailand. “OWLSAT” is inspired by BIRDS project initiated by Kyushu institute of Technology, Japan.
Within this project, participating schools (10 students and 2 teachers for each school) will design and build their own payloads and integrate into provided satellite bus. Basic fundamental engineering lectures, design, fabrication, environmental tests and launch will be conducted by KMUTNB under collaboration and support from Kyushu institute of Technology and The University of Tokyo. Moreover, OWLSAT’s ground stations will a part of BIRDS ground station network. The project will start in April 2020.
